Master of Arts/Science in Population Studies
The two years (full-time) Master degree course is designed to provide high level of understanding of population sciences including an in-depth knowledge of the linkages between population and various socio-economic, health and environmental factors. This course provides foundation to graduate students and prepare them for future research in various aspects related to population.

Eligibility:
Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in India or abroad in any subject with a minimum of 55% marks (50% for reserved candidates) of aggregate marks/equivalent grade in all subjects will be eligible for admission.
Candidates who have already passed the qualifying degree examinations and those who have already appeared/shall be appearing in the final qualifying examinations are eligible to apply. However, the admission of the candidate will be cancelled, if s/he fails to furnish final result by September 30, 2022.
The upper age limit is 25 years as on June 30, 2022. Marks and age will be relaxed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS categories as per Government of India rules only.

Fellowship
Each selected Indian student will be awarded a Government of India Fellowship @ Rs. 5,000/-per month.
Selection Criteria for M.A./M.Sc. Course
The selection will be made on the basis of an Online Entrance Test across India. The Online Entrance Test will comprise objective type questions of multiple choices. The syllabus of Entrance Test will consist of Basic General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Basic Mathematics, Population, Health, and Social Science Issues. The test venue will be notified in the Admit Card.
Reservation
Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/EWS will be considered as per the Government of India norms only.

Core papers cannot be changed. Elective paper can be changed if the student fails in an elective paper and submits his/her request for a change in writing. Evaluation procedure for dissertation (weights) – Guide: 0.25, Presentation & Defense: 0.25, Content: 0.50. The grade for ‘presentation & defense’ must be given independently by each member, and submitted to the controller of examinations independently. For content, the Director may appoint a three-member committee for each dissertation. The two members should independently evaluate the dissertation and independently submit the grades to the controller of examinations.
Master of Population Studies
The one years (full-time) Master degree course is designed to provide high level of understanding of population sciences including an in-depth knowledge of the linkages between population and various socio-economic, health and environmental factors. This course provides foundation to Post-Graduate students in population studies/demographic issues and provides a comprehensive idea to conduct future research in various aspects related to population.

Candidates having M.A./M.Sc. degree from a recognized university in India or abroad with a minimum of 55% (50% for reserved candidates) of aggregate marks/equivalent grade in the subjects; Anthropology, Bio-statistics, Development Studies, Economics, Geography, Health Statistics, Mathematics, Population Studies, Political Science, Population Education, Psychology, Rural Development, Social Work, Sociology, and Statistics will be eligible for admission. Candidates having Master degree, other than subjects specified above and having at least two years of experience in Population and Health related field are also eligible to apply.
Candidates who have already passed the qualifying degree examinations and those who have already appeared/ shall be appearing in the final qualifying examinations are eligible to apply. The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, formerly known as the Demographic Training and Research Centre (DTRC) till 1970, was established in July 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India and the United Nations. It serves as a regional centre for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. The Institute was re-designated to its present title in 1985 to facilitate the expansion of its academic activities. It was declared as a ‘Deemed University’ on August 14, 1985, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The recognition has facilitated the award of recognized degrees by the Institute itself and paved the way for further expansion of the Institute as an academic institution. In 2006, the Institute celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
IIPS holds a unique position among all the regional population centres. It was the first such centre started, and it serves a much larger population than any of the other regional centres. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
There are seven Academic Departments in the Institute. The faculty members and the supporting staff belong to a diverse interdisciplinary background with specialization in some core areas of population sciences, trained in India or abroad.
The Institute is the hub of a population and health-related teaching and research in India, playing a vital role for planning and development of the country. During the past years, students from different countries of Asia and the Pacific region, Africa and North America have trained at the Institute. The alumni are occupying prestigious positions at national and international organisations, universities and colleges, and reputed non-governmental organisations. Besides teaching and research activities, the Institute also provides consultancy to the Government and Non-Governmental organizations and other academic institutions.
During the last six decades, the Institute has organized many seminar and conferences of National and International level in the field of population studies which are of worldwide importance. Institute had conducted many prime surveys like National Family Health Survey (NFHS), District Level Household Survey (DLHS), Assessment of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), YOUTH in India Project, Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS India Project), Research Intervention on Sexual Health Theory to Action (RISHTA Project), and Nutrition Surveys and Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI).
