The COVID-19 pandemic has subverted our claims of being the most advanced species on the planet as our global healthcare system drastically collapsed. With the need for a more stable healthcare system, the demand for Public Health workforce and careers has increased which calls for more and more people to join the Public Health courses and careers that’s now drawing great traction with investments from all stakeholders of the society.

As per K. Srinath Reddy, the President of the Public Health Foundation in India, Southeast Asia requires 50% more healthcare professionals to achieve universal health coverage by 2030.

Rinchen Ongmu Bhutia is a PhD scholar in Public Health at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Rinchen completed her Masters in Philosophy in Public Health from TISS (Mumbai Campus) in the year after her Master’s in Social Work with a specialisation in Public Health from TISS (Guwahati Campus). She pursued her under-graduation studies in Arts from Loreto College, Kolkata.

Rinchen will interact with aspirants and professionals by establishing the fact that the most talked about sector of the year 2020 – Public Health demands human resources not only from medicine but from all backgrounds.

Rinchen’s work mainly focuses on Gender, Health, Public Health, Geriatric Health, Health Literacy, Tuberculosis-it’s impact on Mental Health, Reproductive and Sexual Health, MDR-TB- it impacts on the economy, Health Economic, Public Policies on Health. She has worked with Women, Children, Elderly population, Youth, Marginalised sections, and Tribal population and propelling organisations like Sahayog India, Nari-o-Sishu Kalyan, Sanlaap, Gram Vikas Manch, YouthNet, Human Development Foundation of Sikkim. Rinchen presented her research papers on Health Literacy, Healthcare utilisation, Treatment-Seeking behaviour, Linkages between Health & Education, Accessibility to modern day health care and Addressing the social determinants of health.
