Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is the National Nodal Agency for implementation of Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). PMEGP envisages setting up of micro-enterprises in the rural non-farm sector by helping traditional artisans and unemployed youth.
In total, there were 391344 Village Industries functioning under Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as on 15.11.2016. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of number of Village Industries functioning under KVIC as on 15.11.2016 were: Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Village Industries functioning in Assam was 41834 under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. It accounted for 10.69% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. Village Industries functioning in West Bengal was 39986 under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. It accounted for 10.22% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. Village Industries functioning in Uttar Pradesh was 37359 under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. It accounted for 9.55% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. Village Industries functioning in Maharashtra was 25133 under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. It accounted for 6.42% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. Village Industries functioning in Odisha was 21085 under KVIC as on 15.11.2016. It accounted for 5.39% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC as on 15.11.2016.
These top 5 states accounted for 42.26% of the total number of Village Industries functioning under Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as a whole as on 15.11.2016.
Village Industries functioning under KVIC in Tamil Nadu was 20847 as on 15.11.2016, which accounted 5.33% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC till the same time period. Village Industries functioning under KVIC in Bihar was 19172 as on 15.11.2016, which accounted 4.9% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC till the same time period. Village Industries functioning under KVIC in Karnataka was 17457 as on 15.11.2016, which accounted 4.46% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC till the same time period. Village Industries functioning under KVIC in Madhya Pradesh was 15682 as on 15.11.2016, which accounted 4.01% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC till the same time period. Village Industries functioning under KVIC in Rajasthan was 14935 as on 15.11.2016, which accounted 3.82% of the total Village Industries functioning under KVIC till the same time period.
The above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 64.77% of the total number of Village Industries functioning under Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as a whole as on 15.11.2016.
