The I Access Rights Mission (a Field Action Project of the Centre for Disability Studies and Action, School of Social Work, TISS Mumbai) organised the 6th National Conference on Disability, Accessibility, Inclusion and Wellbeing on 24 December 2022. The National Conference was supported by the Narayan Bhargava Group (NBG).
Organised and convened by Dr. Vaishali Kolhe, the Conference was inaugurated in the presence of Prof. Shalini Bharat (Director, TISS), Prof. Bino Paul (Deputy Director, TISS), Prof. Bipin Jojo (Dean, School of Social Work) and distinguished guests of honour including Mr. Narayan Bhargava (CEO, NBG), Dr. Ravinder Singh (ICMR), Mr. Gursharan Singh (Secretary, Paralympic Committee of India), Prof. Sanjay Jain (National Law School of India University Banglore), and Prof. Gaurav Raheja (Head, Architecture and Planning, IIT Roorkee), Ms. Shweta Jha (Vice-President, NBG).


Prof. Yogesh Pratap Singh (Vice-Chancellor, National Law University Tripura) and Prof. Priti Saxena (Director, Centre for Post-Graduate Legal Studies, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow) joined the proceedings virtually.

The Inaugural Address was delivered by Dr. M.N. Nagaraja (Former Deputy Director, Ali Yawar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing) on ‘Challenges in Development of Speech and Language of Children with Deafness and Development of Sign Language’, while Prof. Krishan Mahajan (Former Additional Registrar (Research), Supreme Court of India) delivered the Valedictory Address on ‘Legal Framework on Disability Rights and Way Forward’.

Twenty scholars from various disciplines like Architecture, International Studies, English Literature, Law, Library Sciences, and Sociology presented papers with a multidisciplinary perspective.
The Conference’s outcome is developing a road map of Disability Rights in India, Disability Research Workshops, Socio-legal Training on Disability and Accessibility, and collaborations.
